The short version
- LeadMeNot: our pick when you want to be told, not shown.
- Covenant Eyes: pick it if your spouse wants screenshots.
- Accountable2You: pick it for reports with nothing blocked.
- Ever Accountable: pick it for image detection.
- Truple: pick it for screenshot reports.
Before the table, decide one thing together: how much should your spouse see?
Some couples want full reports or screenshots. That rebuilds trust for some marriages and turns others into a parole arrangement. Other couples want the spouse told only when a line is crossed, and a short honest note each evening. Neither is wrong. But the apps below split cleanly along that line, so decide first.
Two more things matter for couples specifically. Can the change be undone quietly? And does the spouse have to install and manage anything, or does it just arrive? If you're the spouse, this article is for you.

The picks, one by one
Our pick when you want to be told, not shown
LeadMeNot
Your spouse is emailed when a rule is broken, with the app or site and the words that matched, and gets your short evening reflection. No history, no screenshots. Safe Wall means loosening a rule needs their OK or a waiting period, and with Monitor on they're told if LeadMeNot is logged out, uninstalled or switched off. They install nothing; the LMN Partner app is optional. Up to three partners, so a friend or counselor can share the load.
Where it falls short: If your spouse wants to see everything, screenshots included, this isn't that. It reads text only.
Pick this if your spouse wants screenshots
Covenant Eyes
Screen Accountability sends an ally reports built from AI-reviewed screenshots, images and video included, plus blocking of explicit sites. A Filter Guardian can manage its filter and computers need an Uninstall Code.1,5,7
Pick something else if: No time limits or schedules, whole domains only on its block list, no keyword blocking, and no Chromebook.
Pick this for reports with nothing blocked
Accountable2You
Activity reports and instant alerts to your spouse, trigger words you set, and tamper detection, across Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook.2,6,8
Pick something else if: It doesn't block anything, by design. Some couples want that; many want the block too.
Pick this for image detection
Ever Accountable
On-device AI watches what's on screen inside apps, warns the user first, and tells the partner only if they don't respond. Optional blocking of porn in websites and apps.3
Pick something else if: Blocking is off by default; it's built around monitoring.
Pick this for screenshot reports
Truple
Screenshots at random and right away when a bad site or app opens (blurring optional), daily or weekly reports, and immediate alerts for bad sites, uninstalls and private browsing. One subscription covers the devices in your home.4
Pick something else if: Built around reporting; its listing mentions web filter support rather than detailed blocking rules.
How we chose
LeadMeNot wrote this guide, so our own app is in it. To keep it fair: every fact about another app links to its source (the app's own site where possible), each one gets a plain line on who should pick it instead, and the table only shows what we could verify. A dash means we couldn't confirm it, not that the app lacks it.
We looked at the three things that decide whether a blocker still works a month later: what you can block (not just a list of adult sites, but the apps, places and words that are the problem for you), whether anyone is told when a line is crossed, and whether a weak moment can undo it. Free built-in tools are listed first wherever they exist, because a lot of people need nothing more.
LeadMeNot
Try it with someone in your corner
LeadMeNot blocks what you choose, tells someone you trust when a rule is broken, and makes a weak moment wait. Free to try on every device you own.
Questions
Should my spouse be my accountability partner?
Many couples do this and it works. Consider a second partner too, so every alert doesn't land in the marriage; your spouse is still told. LeadMeNot allows up to three partners.
Which accountability app shows my wife what I looked at?
Covenant Eyes and Truple send reports built from screenshots. Accountable2You sends activity reports. LeadMeNot tells your partner when a rule is broken (the app or site and the matched words) and shares your evening reflection, without history or screenshots.
Can he turn it off without me knowing?
In LeadMeNot, with Safe Wall set to Approval from partner, loosening a rule or switching protection off needs your OK, and with Monitor on you're told if it's logged out, uninstalled or switched off. Covenant Eyes needs an Uninstall Code on computers; Accountable2You detects tampering.
